NABA-TC

Working to increase public enjoyment and conservation of butterflies.

Butterfly counts

Butterfly counts are held in July. NABA sponsors almost 500 butterfly counts across the United States, Canada and northern Mexico each year. Volunteers count all butterfly species and individuals during a one-day period within a 15 mile diameter circle. The results are then published by NABA. These counts are critical in monitoring butterfly population trends, seasonality and ranges.

NABA-TC  is always looking for volunteers to help with butterfly counts which are free and open to the public. Check our events calendar for information about upcoming counts.

Become a member

You can become a member of NABA-Twin Cities by becoming a member of NABA. The annual dues help support our work in the Twin Cities. NABA members receive two quarterly publications, American Butterflies, an educational magazine with many full color photos, and Butterfly Gardener. Interested in membership? Please fill out the NABA enrollment form at the button below.

Education

From field trips to educational events, our purpose is to educate the public about butterfly ecology and conservation. With several Minnesota species on the brink of disappearing and many others declining in numbers, it is vital that we educate the public. Check out our events calendar for upcoming advocacy events or visit our advocacy section of the website (coming soon).
