Description
The Silvery Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus) is a small butterfly with pale blue upper wings and silvery gray undersides adorned with a row of black spots, typically found in open areas, meadows, and grasslands across North America.
Range
It is found throughout the state.
Similar Species
Can be confused with the Azures, but the dark spots below surrounded by white differentiates Silvery from them. Other blues have some orange below and/or tails.
Host Plants
main larval host plants: Lupine (Lupinus spp.), Vetch (Vicia spp.), Wild Pea (Lathyrus spp.), Astragalus (Astragalus spp.), Clover (Trifolium spp.)
Flight
Overwinters in chrysalis, and can emerge as early as late-April and can fly until mid-July
