Description
The Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys gryneus) is a small butterfly with bright green undersides marked by white streaks and brown upper wings, often found in open woodlands, scrublands, and areas with juniper trees across North and Central America.
Range
Southeastern corner of the state, Twin Cities and southeast where stands of junipers grow. The Hastings Sand Coulee is a great place to look for this species.
Similar Species
None. There are no other green butterflies in Minnesota, so you’ll know this one when you see it.
