Description
The Gorgone Checkerspot (Chlosyne gorgone) is a small to medium-sized butterfly with orange wings patterned with black spots and lines, and a pale yellowish band on the hindwing undersides, commonly found in prairies, meadows, and open woodlands across central and eastern North America.
Range
Southern and western Minnesota where prairies are present.
Similar Species
Silvery and Harris’s are similar but neither have the arrowhead or chevrons on the hindwings.

Heliopsis (Heliopsis helianthoides) – False sunflower, Asters (Symphyotrichum spp.), Sunflowers (Helianthus spp.)
