Description

The Dun Skipper (Euphyes vestris) is a small, inconspicuous butterfly with dark brown wings, lacking prominent markings, often found in shaded wetlands, meadows, and woodland edges across much of North America.

Range

It is found throughout the state except the far southwestern corner.

Similar Species

Very similar to Little Glassywing and Northern Broken Dash. Glassywing has large square clear spot on the forewing above, and Northern Broken Dash has tawny, rusty brown shading on the forewing, and the spot band on the hindwing below is in the shape of a 3 and more prominent than the very faint spot band on Dun.

Tussock Sedge (Carex stricta), Other sedges (Carex spp.), Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum), Bluegrass (Poa spp.)
