Description
The Brown Elfin (Callophrys augustinus) is a small butterfly with chocolate-brown wings and a slightly lighter underside featuring subtle, wavy markings, commonly found in open woodlands, heathlands, and near bogs across North America, where it often associates with plants like blueberries and bearberries.
Range
The northeastern portion of the state near bogs. Sax-Zim Bog is a great place to look for this species.
Similar Species
None. Other elfins have frosting on the hindwings which makes this species easy to distinguish.
