Description

The Black Dash (Euphyes conspicua) is a small skipper butterfly with dark brown wings featuring orange markings on the forewings and a lighter, golden-brown underside on the hindwings, commonly found in wetlands, marshes, and moist meadows across eastern and central North America.

Range

Southern two-thirds of the state near wetlands.

Similar Species

The spot band on the hindwing of Black Dash has two spots that jut out a bit which isn’t the case for similar brown skippers like Northern Broken Dash.
