Description

The American Snout (Libytheana carinenta) is a medium-sized butterfly with distinctive elongated mouthparts resembling a “snout,” orange and black patterned wings, and a mottled brown underside, commonly found in open areas, woodlands, and near rivers across the Americas. I’ve only seen this species once in Minnesota. The image with the wings open was taken in Dallas, Texas.
