Dakota County Parks is studying the types of butterflies found in its parks to help conserve these iconic pollinators for future generations, and you can help! The Dakota County Springtime Butterfly Bioblitz 2021 will track butterfly species in Miesville Ravine Park Reserve and Spring Lake Park Reserve between May 24 to May 31. To participate:

  • Add iNaturalist to your smartphone and join the BioBlitz project.
  • Head to Miesville Ravine Park Reserve and/or Spring Lake Park Reserve between May 24 and May 31.
  • Take pictures of as many butterflies as you can.
  • Upload the pictures to iNaturalist with your camera or smartphone.

If you would like to learn more about identifying spring butterfly species in Dakota County and the Twin Cities Metro, the Twin Cities chapter of the North American Butterfly Association will be hosting a virtual butterfly ID training on May 24 from 7-8:30pm.
